There is something inherently nostalgic about travelling by train, watching scenery roll past from the comfort of your cabin. A glimpse through a train window of life rolling by somehow seems more romantic, idyllic and a place at its very best.

Bentours offers many great itineraries that feature travel by rail and below are a few popular journeys as samples of the adventures you can experience.

The best of Norway for the time-poor

Over 4 days, see the best that Norway has to offer by train on the Norway in a Nutshell package. Begin by exploring Oslo, the capital of the North with many interesting museums and cultural sights to see. Then it's onto Voss, passing by picturesque farms, forests and glaciers along the way. From Voss, explore the surrounding area by train, including the famous Flam Railway, an ascension of the Flam Valley into the mountains in a real marvel of railway engineering. See waterfalls, mountain vistas and take a ferry across the narrow but deep Naeroy Fjord. The train from Myrdal back to Voss takes you through 5km of mountain in the Gravhals tunnel.

Next it is on to Bergen, the gateway to Fjord land and an important trading port for centuries. Here, enjoy tours of the medieval old town of Bryggen, and perhaps even extend your itinerary with a Hurtigruten voyage up the coast of Norway.

A week in Denmark
