MS Spitsbergen is Hurtigruten’s newest vessel, cruising the Norwegian coastline from May 2016.
While following a similar route to some of the other ships in the Hurtigruten fleet, she is specifically equipped for sailing in polar waters and can bring guests even closer to the incredible arctic environment.
Built in 2009 and refit in 2015 with all the modern comforts, MS Spitsbergen is ideally designed to maneuver the Arctic waters and get up as close to the natural wonders as possible. Designed with classic Scandinavian timelessness, the modern public areas and cabins reflect the natural surrounds in colour palette, and the unparalleled views take centrestage.
As well as the interior refurbishment, MS Spitsbergen has integrated environmentally conscious aspects which has seen a significant reduction in emissions and fuel consumption.
Follow in the footsteps of Vikings
Learning goes hand in hand with exploring and while aboard the ship, Hurtigruten's polar Expedition Team offer informative lectures on everything from the region’s natural phenomena to Viking history to glaciology - and of course, the history of the explorers who have carved the way before them.
Guests not only have a chance to marvel at the beautiful natural environment but get up close and personal with the culture, history and lives of the people living here through the various hiking, camping, kayaking and photography excursions.
Ms Spitsbergen is equipped with a spacious outdoor deck which allows you to relax in comfort while observing marine wildlife. Unmatched views can be seen from the observation lounge on deck six, while deck five offers amazing food at the restaurant and bistro while looking out over the natural surrounds. On deck seven you will find two outdoor whirlpools, alongside a well equipped gym facility.
