MS Midnatsol is the perfect ship for those looking to immerse themselves in the polar environment, catering to all ages and learning levels. The ship allows guests to join interesting field experiments and participate in engaging lectures all with state-of-the-art equipment designed to facilitate polar exploration for all guests.
Midnatsol means 'Midnight Sun' in Norwegian and the bright interior is inspired by the warm and sunny Norwegian summer. The stand-out feature of her design is the two storey panoramic lounge above the bow. With huge expanses of glass, guests can marvel at extraordinary views in natural light filled surrounds - and in summer, bask in the Midnight Sun. This abundance of natural light is just one aspect of the ship that makes up its strong environmental profile.
Adventure in comfort
The MS Midnatsol is equipped to cater for many guests of different needs and runs the Young Explorer programme to engage with our younger guests. She was put into service in April 2003 and has a modern design, featuring many pieces of Norwegian modern art. Deck nine has a sun deck and a jacuzzi where guests are encouraged to take a break and relax.
MS Midnatsol also offers 23 beautifully designed suites, several of which have balconies from which guests can enjoy the Antarctic views.
MS Midnatsol has all the facilities for those who value learning and personal growth over luxury. A team of experts make up our Expedition Team, who run regular excursions ashore and in small craft to manoeuvre through the iceberg-rich waters of Antarctica. They also conduct lectures in our amphitheatre for all ages, including the Young Explorers programme.
MS Midnatsol is equipped with a science centre, an optic centre and a media room situated on the explorer deck. Here, guests can enlighten themselves about their environment and watch films and photos of their own adventures - or plan the adventure ahead.
