MS Vesteralen
Vesterålen was the name of the first coastal ship and is carried proudly by her modern counterpart. Refitted in 1995, she is characterised by bright and cheerful public areas and features works of art by artists with links to the north Norwegian landscape. The ship was built in 1983 in Harstad, Norway and carries 510 passengers.
MS Lofoten
MS Lofoten is in operation on the Coastal Voyage during the winter months and voyages around the Svalbard Archipelago throughout the summer. Built in 1964 and refitted and refurbished in 2004, she has the distinction of being named a listed vessel by the Norwegian Director General of Historic Monuments.
MS Midnatsol
MS Midnatsol took her maiden voyage along the Norwegian coast in April 2003 and has become a favourite. The ship has large panorama lounges, cafés and bars with an ideal blend of traditional and 21st century design.
MS Nordlys
Nordlys translates into Northern Lights in English. The décor of the ship is inspired by the Northern Lights and Norwegian artists have used wood and brass fittings and textiles to create an elegant and relaxed atmosphere. MS Nordlys was built in 1994 and carries up to 691 passengers.
MS Richard With
Proudly bearing the name of the founder of Hurtigruten. The ship displays an interior design and artworks which refect a traditional atmosphere and an intimate acquaintance with the coast it serves. The comfortable facilities now include two outdoor Jacuzzis which were installed during 2005.
MS Polarlys
There are unparalleled views from almost every quarter of this stylish vessel. Polished brass and wood, sculptures, carvings and a fine selection of Norwegian contemporary art are found alongside the comfort of the bars, café, conference rooms and restaurant.
MS Nordstjernen
MS Nordstjernen was built in 1956 for service on the Hurtigruten route. This traditional working ship is rich in character and is another from favourite for many a Hurtigruten enthusiast. Having been modernised during the 1980s she has been used latterly for voyages around the Spitsbergen Archipelago.
MS Nordnorge
The name of this beautiful ship is taken from the most northerly area of Norway. Artists responsible for the décor are associated with this region. Modern facilities are balanced by a style which is infuenced by Art Nouveau and Art Deco ensuring adherence to true Hurtigruten tradition, while producing a light and airy atmosphere. To complete the relaxing on board experience two outdoor Jacuzzis were added in 2005.
MS Nordkapp
MS Nordkapp is named after the famous North Cape, which is a cape on the island of Magerøya in northern Norway, in the municipality of Nordkapp.
MS Trollfjord
A magnifcent ship deservedly bearing the name of one of the most dramatic sights on the voyage. The interior design was infuenced by the coastal scenery and the wide windows in the panorama lounges provide excellent viewing. Cafés, bars, a conference area, Jacuzzi and exercise room are all equipped to a high standard. The latest technology ensures the ship’s propulsion system produces the minimum of noise and vibration.
MS Kong Harald
Named after the King of Norway, this majestic ship also pays tribute to other famous Norwegians and includes the Nansen club bar and Amundsen café. True to tradition, many local artists have put their own individual stamp on this elegant vessel, with distinctive works displayed throughout.
MS Finnmarken
The first Hurtigruten ship to bear this name was introduced in 1912 and her worthy successor has been designed to reflect the elegance of the past. Her Art Nouveau style interior is complemented by modern panorama lounges, bars and bistro, conference facilities, hairdresser and beauty treatment room. A swimming pool, fitness room, sauna, solarium and outside Jacuzzis are also on board.
MS Fram
New in 2007, MS Fram is the latest edition to Hurtigruten’s fleet. Designed especially for expedition cruising she operates around Greenland throughout the northern hemisphere summer before heading out to Antarctica for the Southern hemisphere summer. Her interior design is inspired by Greenland and the Arctic and several items of the original Fram will be on display on board. Facilities include restaurant and bars, panorama lounges and lecture rooms as well as café, sauna, Jacuzzi, and an exercise room.
Juno
The MS Juno, built in 1874, is the world’s oldest registered ship with overnight accommodation in 29 cabins on three decks. She was one of the first ships operated by the Göta Canal Steamship Company. The beautiful “grand old lady” was rebuilt in 1904 and her current appearance dates to 1963.
Kapitan Khlebnikov
Kapitan Khlebnikov is a polar-class icebreaker, combining power and technology with creature comforts. Built in Finland in 1981 and originally designed for the rigors of northern Siberia, Kapitan Khlebnikov is one of a few vessels of its kind in the world. Refurbished for expedition cruising in 1992, the icbreaker carries a maximum of 112 passengers and was the first ship to circumnavigate Antarctica with passengers in 1996-97.
