Malmo, the southernmost province contains many historic buildings and is known as the city of parks. It was thought to be founded in 1275 as a fortified quay but is now famous for it’s food and it’s historical points of interest such as the city hall dating back to 1546, now home to the Radhuskallaren restaurant. St Peter’s Church is the oldest building dating back to the 14th century and boasts some superbly preserved paintings. But if you fancied something a little different the railway link takes only 35 minutes by train from Malmo city centre to the centre of Copenhagen and Denmark. SEE: The Malmöhus Castle from the 15th century - Malmöhus Castle, the city museum, is the oldest remaining Renaissance castle in Scandinavia showing collections of art, folklore and natural history with special exhibitions showing all year around. HSB Turning Torso - The HSB Turning Torso building stands 190 meters tall, has 54 floors and is divided into 9 cubical units. The entire building twists 90 degrees on its way up to the top. The Oresund Bridge - The Oresund stretches nearly 8km across the Oresund and must be experienced by all visitors to the city. Pildammsparken - kick back and relax in the city are Pildammsparken, the largest park in Malmo and the sandy beaches of Ribersborg located just minutes from the city centre. St. Peter’s Church - The oldest building in Malmo, dating from the early 14th century, The church was built in "Baltic Brick Gothic". EXPERIENCE: Möllevangen - The market trade is lively and is the most colourful part of Malmo and the shops and restaurants have roots all over the world. SECRETS OF THE CITY: If you’re a shopaholic then Malmo is your place as the shops are open 7 days a week and is cheaper than Copenhagen, it’s Danmark neighbour. The main shopping area runs from Stortorget and Lilla Torg, through Södergatan, via Gustav Adolfs Torg (Gustav Adolf's Square), continuing southwards along Södra Förstadsgatan, to Triangeln and on.
