Day 1 Helsinki – Rovaniemi Fly to Rovaniemi. (B) Day 2 Rovaniemi Explore this region also known as Santa Claus Land at your own pace. During winter it is one of Finland’s best skiing centres and features the International Snow Sculpture Festival, snowmobiling, ice-surfing and ice-golf. In summer it is the land of the midnight sun with sparkling clear spring days and magnificent colours during autumn. (B)
Day 3 Rovaniemi – Inari Late morning departure by local bus for Inari - further north into the heart of Finnish Lapland. (B) Day 4 Inari The day is at your leisure to explore Inari at your own pace. Optional activities including a lake cruise, reindeer farm and gold panning are available in the summer months, and in winter, snowmobile and cross-country skiing trips can be arranged. (B)
Day 5 Inari – Kirkenes – Coastal Voyage Take a scenic minibus transfer learning about Sami culture, reindeer farming, local vegetation and life in Lapland on your way to Kirkenes. Board your Norwegian coastal steamer and depart in the early afternoon. (BLD)
Day 6 Honningsvag – Hammerfest – Tromso Sail along a coastline that displays Norwegian nature and scenery at its most beautiful. Arrive at the most northerly town in the world – Hammerfest – before steaming south to the fishing port of Oksfjord and on to Tromso. (BLD)
Day 7 Tromso – Stamsund Make a morning stop at the coastal town of Harstad before continuing through the islands of Vesteralen and Lofoten, then on to Svolvaer and Stamsund. (BLD)
Day 8 Bodo – Rorvik Make a rare crossing of the Arctic Circle and stop at Sandnessjoen. Pass by Torghatten, a gigantic rock gouged with a huge hole that, according to legend, was made by a mythical horseman’s arrow. (BLD)
Day 9 Trondheim – Kristiansund – Molde On arrival in Trondheim, you can enjoy an optional city sightseeing tour. Continue to Kristiansund and Molde, a town of traditional white-painted wooden houses. (BLD)
Day 10 Alesund – Bergen The ship glides towards Bergen, the city of medieval Hanseatic merchants. Your 24-hour Bergen Card allows you to visit all the city highlights. (BL) Day 11 Bergen – Voss Spend the day at leisure with your Bergen Card. Take an afternoon train journey to Voss. (BD)
Day 12 Voss Enjoy a full day “Norway-in-a-Nutshell’ sightseeing tour by motorcoach from Voss to the famed Stalheim Gorge with superb waterfalls on either side of a road that zigzags down to the floor of the valley to Gudvangen. (Alternate route to Gudvangen in winter). A ferry carries you through the narrow Naeroy Fjord to Flam and the next stage is an ascent of the Flam Valley by electric train, a marvel of railway engineering where the track twists and turns up the valley to 2800ft above sea level. From Myrdal take the train back to Voss, passing through the three mile long Gravhals Tunnel on the way. (BD)
Day 13 Voss – Oslo Morning departure by train to Oslo enjoy the scenery, with snow-capped mountains as a background to verdant orchards, deep and narrow fjords, and glittering lakes. (B) Day 14 Oslo Take full advantage of your 24-hour Oslo Pass to explore this lovely city at the head of the fjord. Oslo Pass includes unlimited travel on public transport and admission to most museums and sights. Visit the Viking Ship Museum, Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Kon Tiki Raft and Polar vessel “Fram” Museums. Perhaps take a fjord cruise or relax around the harbour. (B)
Day 15 Oslo-Copenhagen Travel from Oslo to Copenhagen for a last look at Scandinavia’s largest city. (B) Day 16 Copenhagen Your Grand Nordic tour ends after breakfast. (B)
